Love Homework: This Week Revisit An Old Memory Together

Share the Love

First I want to give a special, special shout out and HUGE thank you to all the bloggers who had fun with last week’s Say It On A Post It assignment. I thoroughly enjoyed reading each and every post!

Okay so now on to today’s business.

The Assignment

Bust out those old photo boxes and albums, dust off the pages and look through them together. Find a captured memory that makes you both smile and reminisce about that exact moment together. Do you remember what you both were thinking right before, while, or after the photo was taken? Are your memories of that moment sweet? Bittersweet? Happy? Funny? There’s nothing like a remember-when moment between a couple. So post the photo that took you briefly back in time and share your “joint” memories of that special moment!

Can’t wait to read your homework ladies! Remember you can post any time this week. (Just come back and add your link to the party when you’re ready!)

Here’s my homework:

This photo was taken in May of 2009 at the Dominica stop on a south Caribbean cruise The Man and I took together. When we pulled it out of the pile we both erupted with laughter.

The back story behind this photo is absolutely hilarious. Gibran immediately pointed out that his smile was totally forced here. Why? Well for three reasons: 1) Being overzealous I booked two excursions per day on every leg of the trip and he was thoroughly pissed off that I got him up at 7AM that day to board a minivan and venture into the tropical jungle to go tubing because all he really wanted to do was sleep in and hit the pool. 2) He can’t swim and since he’d almost drowned once before on a Mexican vacation we took together when I came up with the bright idea to take him snorkeling (long story will share later), this time I’d forced him to wear his life jacket even though he was going to be in an inner tube floating in 3 feet of water. Plus, as it turns out. the life jackets were way too small for us and we felt like little kids stuffed in snow suits the whole time. 3) Totally aware of his awful mood, I still proceeded to ask the weird man floating next to us if he’d take a quick photo before the group took off, and had the nerve to still ask Gibran to smile! (LOL!)

By now as we’re telling the story again to each other I’m buckled over and in tears because I’m laughing so hard. It’s always funny watching my husband retell his version of a story where he stars as the only victim. Never mind that between my huge boobs and the super tight vest I could barely breath or even sit up straight to paddle. Every time I tried to get a handle on the rapids I realized I couldn’t turn because my husband’s giant hand was gripping the side of my tube as he held on for dear life.

A few miles down the river we had finally found our groove and I somehow convinced Gibran to let go and just paddle on his own. As soon as he did a rapid took him away tossed him into a rock and flipped him right out of his tube. The other people in our group nearly died laughing when they saw me floating swiftly away (backwards!) down the river waving my hands and paddle and screaming “someone help my husband!” at the top of my lungs. while Gibran just stood there in knee-high water unharmed giving me the evil eye because he’d not only lost his paddle but his favorite shades had fallen into the river too. (Oops!)

A few seconds later a guide came to “rescue” him and return the tube that had failed him and they floated down the river a ways to find me desperately trying to hold on to a giant tree branch hanging off the embankment so I wouldn’t keep floating away. When I saw him I jumped out of my tube and waded over to him and grabbed his face. I said I’m sorry a thousand times. He wanted to stay mad at me for dragging him on this failed mission but he couldn’t keep himself from laughing at the sight of me all tangled up in the tree trying to hold on for dear life as I waited anxiously for him.

Needless to say it was all laughs and smiles for us the rest of the way down the river and ironically that little adventure through the rain forest of Dominica ended up being one of the most beautiful parts of our entire vacation!

Now that we’d taken a moment to go back in time, we put the photo back and went to bed making jokes about the weird looks we had on our faces that day. It was the first time in a few weeks we’d gone to bed absolutely tickled and we loved it. I hope your trip together down memory lane will be that rewarding too!
