New Marriage Stats: Northeasterners Less Happy, Men More Intensely In Love

black couple jumping the broom at wedding ceremony

The Man and I jumping the broom at our wedding ceremony. Good times!

With marriage getting such a bad rep these days in the news, it’s nice to hear something positive about it pop up every now and then.

Results of a recent study conducted on married American couples revealed that three quarters of them are still “very in love” after decades of married life. Hooray for that! Ironically, we live in the Northeast, where the same results reveal that only a third of married couples were “intensely in love”.

I’m going to go out on a limb here, since I’m no psychologist, and say that judging from the amount of time my hectic work schedule leaves me to spend with my husband, quality of life probably has something to do with this stat. Working fourteen-hour days and enduring long commutes on both ends, don’t make for happy husbands or wives by the time you get home. It’s hard to feel intimate when you’re exhausted!

On the brighter side, the rest of the married couples in the country seem to be doing just fine. Men, slightly more so than women, in a surprise twist. Forty-nine percent of men checked off the “very intensely in love” answer, while forty-six percent of women did the same. I must say, I would think those numbers would be flipped. (If I had a dollar for every time my husband told me how much crap men talk about their wives at work…) Continue reading

Viral Video: Super Cute Stop Motion Marriage Proposal

You guys know how much I love sharing unique proposal videos I stumble across. Found one today that’s so unique and very cool. A very creative guy used a stop motion sketch to pop the question to his girlfriend. We don’t get to see her response but I’m thinking with a proposal this cute it was a “yes!” Here’s the video!

Weird Wife News: Til Death Do Us (Not!) Part?

Every now and then you read or see something in the news that is just so disturbing you have no words. This was one of those moments for me. Seriously, I have no words…just watch. (These reality TV casting people can’t possibly sleep at night.)

Okay, now I have a few words. I think it goes without saying that this wife took loving and honoring her husband a step too far. I feel like there’s a message here — or at least there was for me. True love can be the best thing in your life and the greatest thing to ever happen to you, bur it can’t define who you are, because if it does, what will you have if you lose it? What kind of person will you become? A marriage can’t define you. You must define your marriage…wow…I just don’t even know what else to say about this one.

Problems Married People Have: How Do You Make Up?

im sorry note make up from a fight adviceThe other day I told a friend my husband and I were having a rough week and arguing a lot and she said, “that means you’ll have a weekend full of make-up sex, so I’m actually jealous of you.” Funny enough, she shouldn’t be, because we don’t make up that way. Now, no judgments here if you and yours prefer to repair pain with passion – I believe to each it’s own. It’s just that after she said that I started thinking about exactly how we usually bounce back from a bad moment, and I realized laughter is our Band-Aid of choice.

Maybe it’s because we fell in love laughing at each other’s jokes and ways, or maybe it has something to do with the fact that we’re both pretty light-hearted by nature — I’m not quite sure– but either way I know that whenever we’re really, really upset with each other a laugh is what always makes it better. Usually it’s instant. Sometimes even the fact that we’ve been ignoring each other while in the same room for hours is just so ridiculous that one of us just burst into laughter and the other follows. 30 GREAT SUMMER DATES: Please Don’t Sleep On The Zoo

bronx zoo photos

We had a chance to accompany our good friends to the Bronx Zoo over the weekend and since we can never get enough of our godson Liam we decided we’d take them up on the offer. I’m seriously glad we did!

man wife and dog blog bronx zoo dateZoo dates equal great photos and great laughs – two things we love. Even though we walked around in the 90 degree heat and smelled more animal crap than anyone should have to in one day, we actually had more fun there than we did at the state fair. Who knew? The fact that it was free to get in (thanks Bank of America sponsored weekends!) helped us start the day with a smile. (Note: BOA sponsors free activities the first weekend of every month for card holders. Check out the deal in your area here.)

It’s no secret that we’re animal lovers, so we got to let our inner geeks come out to play as we read up on weird and exotic animal facts while snapping away with our iPhones. When a flock of birds came out of nowhere and flew right above my head, I screamed like I was an extra in Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds” movie, and my husband laughed so hard I thought he was going to pass out. Good times!

I could list a million reasons why the zoo makes a great summer date, but I think these pictures say it all. Note: That is NOT a real giraffe! (We’re not that crazy!)
