Yes, I am a silly wife. The silly wife who has never baked anything before and still who promised her husband that if he went apple picking with her on Sunday instead of watching football that she would bake him a “delicious pie” to have all to himself — from scratch no less. Yes, I’m that idiot.
I made a promise that Man fully intends to make me keep and I must now, somehow, deliver on it soon. This was on Sunday and I need to bake these apples before they go bad, right? Crap!
Does anyone have a foolproof recipe they stand by? I’ve been Googling, and googling, but there are just SO many!
Help, please! (I’ll save you a piece!)

Hi! First of all, I love your blog – it gives this single lady something to look forward to
Your intentions of baking an apple pie from scratch are impressive, but if you’re not really into baking, you might want to try a store-bought crust and a simple recipe like the “Apple Pie-I” one from allrecipes.com. Speaking as someone who prides herself on baking red velvet cake from scratch, I am plenty intimidated by the idea of attempting an apple pie! Good luck and happy baking!!
Andrea, it makes me SO happy to hear that. I started this blog to paint a positive picture of marriage and the work involved in getting to happily ever after. I'm glad reading it makes you optimistic and happy. That makes me smile. And yes, you're right, this was WAY too optimistic of me. What was I thinking promising to make it from scratch? Crust is one thing I WON'T be making this week. Gotta start somewhere. Thank you!
I got nothing but good luck and well wishes!

Thank you!! I'm going to post the finished product and accompanying story. Hope it's a good one!
Check the 'The Chew' website, Carla Hall from Top chef did a yummy apple pie and cranberrie recipe just the other day, that I'm going to try very soon!
good luck
I've heard someone mention "The Chew" before. Will definitely have to check that out ASAP. Thanks so much for dropping by to help.
I got mines from one of my moms old friends years ago. I never make the crust myself I buy store bought crust then add the filling. I cook my apples first in butter, cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg and lemon juice. I don’t know measurements so I can’t help you with that. I use 2 different kinds of apples and slice them in small chunks. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/pau…
After the apples cook I add the all purpose flour and mix it together then add it to the crust. The recipe above is good I never follow directions though. Good luck
Thanks Kita! my grandma was a no recipe kind of woman. I only wish I'd appreciated that more before she passed away and paid closer attention to how she made the delicious meals she did…sigh…the things we wish we know. But thank you very much for taking the time to share what works for you. I appreciate it!!
