New Study Says The More You Drink the Less Happy Your Marriage (Or Worse, It Might Not Last!)

Beer Tasting

A team at the Indiana University School of Education recently released the results of a study on the effects of alcohol consumption and marriage. They found that people who drink more frequently wait later in life to get married and experience less successful marriages. Typically I’m not easily alarmed by marriage studies because I believe that a marriage is what you make it and a direct reflection of how much effort you put into it. But this study in particular did peak my interest some if only because my husband is the drinker in our relationship and I often wish he’d have one or two less beers (or shots) than he usually does when we’re out. I’m certainly not worried that our happy marriage is headed for hard times because of it, but I kind of get a kick out of the fact that he did wait seven years to pop the question — given these “findings” and all. Ha!

So anyway, I’m polling the audience here. Wives are you happy with your husband’s drinking habits? Just curious…

I love your blog design…and that doggy of yours is adorable!

I'm the social drinker in my marriage. My husband doesn't drink and that is by choice. For the past nine years, I have learned to respect my husband with making sure that I drink with him around and if I do a girls dine out, I do not drive. I am more of a home body now because of my busy work schedule…so it's nice that my hubby at least has a glass of wine waiting for me and he knows I love my Bearfoot Moscato…but sorry I am the opposite of your question. All has been good and thankfully, we have a mutual agreement that we would never let alcohol get in the way of our mission to be the best parents we can be.

You're really being responsible about it. I think that's the most important factor at the end of the day. Drinking and driving is a huge no-no for me. I won't even let my family drive me under the influence, so especially not my husband. No way!

I guess nothing is absolute. Its up to you and your partner to be honest above things that negatively impact your marriage. When you hide behind alcohol, compulsive shopping, porn, infidelity or any other substitute for good open communication a marriage or any other relationship will be doomed.

You're so right Daddy. I think that you really taught me the value of communication over the years and I'm thankful for that because it really has become the foundation of our relationship. We try our best to hold each other accountable for our actions and our flaws so that we can bring to light what we need to work on. :-)

  2. Thanks , I’ve recently been looking for info approximately this topic for a long time and yours is the greatest I’ve came upon so far. But, what about the bottom line? Are you positive in regards to the supply?|What i do not realize is in truth how you are no longer really a lot more smartly-favored than you might be right now. You are very intelligent.
